CeBIT 2001

After Comdex, what else but to top it up with the largest technology exhibition on in the world, CeBIT? As before, we participated under the care of the Singapore Pavilion. Thanks to our experience from the Comdex show, we took the preparation in stride.

When we reached Hannover, we found ourselves in the care of a great host family. The weather was biting cold, and on some days, it snowed, which was unusual for what is supposed to be early spring. Instead of the promised 6-11 ºC as stated in the location guide, it was more like -5 ºC to 5 ºC for the entire duration of our stay!

The show itself was even more gruelling than Comdex, lasting a total of 8 days, including the weekends. There were numerous halls to cover, with each hall having a particular theme, such as telecommunications, or software etc. On foot, one could cover about two halls each day, or three if you have very good stamina. The bottled water given away at the Singapore Pavilion was an instant hit with tired visitors.

Our little mascot, a cute little toy train, continues to be a major crowd puller (and a constant annoyance to our neighbours due to the clicking sound it makes during operation!) People stopped in their tracks to stare at it, photographed it, videotaped it etc. Again, for those of you who missed it, we have some video footages of our mascot in action!

The highlight of the show is actually a Bavarian dinner organized for the exhibitors. People of all nationalities gathered under one big hall, eating, drinking, singing and dancing the night away. There was plenty of beer to go around, and the famous pig knuckles is enough to fill anyone's stomach. By the end of the dinner, people were dancing on the tables and generally making a merry fool of themselves!

Let us take this opportunity to acknowledge those people whom we met at the show. We hope to see you again!
